Cantaloupe/Muskmelon
Question:  What is the difference between Cantaloupe & Muskmelon?
Technically, in the U.S., cantaloupe and muskmelon are actually both muskmelon. However, many people distinguish between the two by their texture, smell, and firmness. What we refer to as cantaloupe are firmer and smoother, while muskmelon have softer flesh, a musky aroma, and a ribbed exterior. At the farm, we grow Eclipse muskmelons. In addition, we purchase Ambrosia muskmelons from Indiana to extend our melon season.
Muskmelon Tips
Melons have 4 color stages: green, yellow (ripe, edible), golden (best for eating), and brown (over-ripe). Melons are ripe when the stem pops right off without effort.
If you are storing at room temperature, you should eat your melon in 1-2 days; however, they can be kept in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks.
